Discussion: The Image of God

Overview

The doctrine of the image of God forms a foundational element in Christian theology. It describes human beings as reflections of the divine nature. Participants examine key passages from Genesis and other Scriptures to understand this teaching. They also reflect on how sin affects the image and how redemption restores it.

Instructions

1. Post an initial thread of 200-300 words by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. (ET).
2. Address the prompt: Explain what it means for humans to bear God’s image and discuss one way this influences daily life.
3. Support the response with at least two Scripture references and one academic source.

Genesis 1:26-27 declares that God created humankind in his own image, granting dignity and purpose to every person. This truth shapes views on human rights and responsibilities toward others. Psalm 8 further highlights human significance in creation, positioned just below the angels. Through Christ, Colossians 3:10 describes renewal of the image, calling believers to live in holiness.
