Effective preparedness depends on trust, coordination, and shared responsibility among community organizations. Public and private partners are often perceived as trusted sources and support preparedness by working with the health department to provide input and mitigate identified health risks for the communities they serve. Collaborative partnerships allow communities to respond more quickly and effectively to unexpected events. Partners also help identify community roles and responsibilities and coordinate the delivery of essential health services to strengthen community resilience as early as possible before, during, and after a public health emergency. Purpose

You are creating an appraisal of public health support, communication sources, and a variety of services in the community in the event of a public health emergency or disaster.

Instructions

1. Identify existing or potential public partners engaged in activities relevant to planning for access and functional needs. Many of these partners may lend their knowledge, expertise, and risk communication planning. Community-based organizations often provide unique perspectives that strengthen preparedness plans.
2. Identify organizations who can aid in the response and supply services or support for vulnerable and multicultural populations. Inclusion of diverse partners ensures that emergency plans reflect the needs of the entire community.
