Topic: Evaluation of Health Information Systems in Nursing Practice

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to evaluate the role of health information systems in improving clinical workflow, data accuracy, and patient outcomes. Students will examine a healthcare organization’s information system, assess its strengths and limitations, and provide recommendations for optimizing its use in nursing practice.

Assignment Instructions

1. Select a healthcare setting where electronic health records (EHRs) or a comparable health information system is actively used. Examples include acute care units, outpatient clinics, or long-term care facilities.
2. Describe the system’s main components, such as documentation modules, clinical decision support tools, and communication interfaces.
3. Analyze how the system supports patient safety, quality of care, and interprofessional collaboration.
4. Discuss two challenges encountered by nursing staff when using the system and propose realistic solutions to improve usability and workflow efficiency.
5. Include at least three scholarly references published between 2019 and 2026 to support your evaluation and recommendations.
