The narrative is insightful and well supported.
—>
Translational research is a vital tool for advancing equitable access to health care and preventative services and policies based on population health. Translational research involves taking findings from basic research and applying them to real-world settings, such as in the development of health policies. One example of a local health care policy that has been recently enacted and influenced by research is the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the United States. The ACA, which was passed in 2010, aimed to increase access to health insurance coverage for low-income and underserved populations. The ACA was heavily influenced by research on the negative health consequences of lack of insurance coverage and the benefits of expanding access to health care.

As an advanced practice nurse, my future role in advocating for equitable population health services and policies will involve utilizing evidence-based practice and research to inform my advocacy efforts. I anticipate that one potential challenge in population advocacy may be navigating and understanding the complex policy-making process. To meet this challenge, I plan to continue my education on health policy and advocacy, as well as build relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers. Additionally, I will work to educate and engage my patients and community members in advocacy efforts to promote health equity.

In terms of a current or proposed health care policy that promotes equitable health care for a diverse population, I would choose the Medicaid Expansion program. The Medicaid Expansion is a provision of the Affordable Care Act that allows states to expand eligibility for the Medicaid program to cover more low-income individuals. This policy specifically targets diverse population such as the low-income individuals, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and children. It improves their access to quality, cost-effective health care by providing them with health insurance coverage. The policy is financially sound as it is funded by both the federal and state governments. It incorporates the nursing perspective by promoting better health outcomes and access to care for vulnerable populations. This policy is related to several state and federal health policies, including the Affordable Care Act, and helps achieve equitable health care for diverse populations by reducing health disparities and improving access to health care for low-income individuals.

Advocacy strategies for improving access, quality, and cost-effective health care for the diverse population selected would include educating and engaging community members on the benefits of the Medicaid Expansion program, building relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers, and utilizing evidence-based research to inform advocacy efforts.
