During the election campaign for the presidency, Obama made a key speech, which became known as the Yes we can \u2018speech because of the way the phrase was repeated at key moments.This speech is about change, reaching for a higher purpose and uniting to solve the problems in America. From the Introduction of the speech one can clearly see that the tone of the speech Is inspirational. People from all different background identifies that the speech was appealing, because of president Beam\u2019s powerful, inspiring rhetoric of hope and change to represent his stands on Issues such as climate, energy, service, and the Iraq war.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In his own words, Barack Obama champions his ideas, dreams and visionary plans in messages of hope and change that encourage millions of Americans and the global community. If we listen to his word once more that experience again those moments and be inspired again. Obama uses some anecdotes to describe the problems facing America. He does not describe the problem but rather uses anecdotes from the trenches which add to the appeal of the speech.He offers anecdotal evidence to support the rebellion against any oppressor, this is shown where he states the following ;It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom through the darkest of nights\u201d, Throughout the speech he repeats Yes we can\u2019 this is a call to action, this quotes persuades and encourages people to strongly believe that they can change America and woks towards to achieve the action. In addition, this repetition hammers It Into he mind and links it with powerful and positive emotions of people. He uses powerful repetition and list of three to grab audience attention.<\/p>\n

This is shown where he state ;yes we can to Justice and equality, Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity, Yes we can heal this nation and Yes we can repair this world, Yes we can. \u201d This tremble audience mind and feels more confident to achieve. Also, Obama uses the unity word \u201cwe\u201d repeatedly throughout the speech. This is Intended to show that Obama is the leader of the team yet more importantly he is still part of the team. ;l Have a Dream\u201d by Martin Luther King is one of the most memorable speeches of all time. Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist who actually made a difference in the country.He transformed American society from a fake democracy into one in which all people can participate and achieve.<\/p>\n

The key message in the speech is that Martin Luther King felt it must be the case for the future. He argued passionately and powerfully to convey the messages to the people. He uses rhetorical devices and strategies throughout his speech about freedom, often tying in certain opinions or motions to them. Some specific strategies he uses are his diction, his use of metaphors and rhetorical devices which cast freedom into a good light and tying dark things to oppression.This is showing the lack of freedoms and rights in a decidedly bad light. Throughout his speeches he repeats \u201cl have a dream\u201d and the phrase is repeated constantly to hammer home Martin Luther Kings inspirational concepts. Some other examples of repetition in Kings speech were \u201cwe cannot be satisfied\u201d and \u201cnow is the time.<\/p>\n

\u201d This adds to the appeal of the speech because it makes it stronger ND more powerful. These terms that King repeats are key words that have to do with ending racism. Also He uses a heightened vocabulary, demonstrated by such words as \u201cmanacles,\u201d \u201clanguished,\u201d and \u201credemptive\u201d.Those intelligent vocabularies present his speech in a logical and professional form. Both Martin Luther Kings \u201cl have a dream\u201d and Beam\u2019s miss we can! \u201d speeches have an underlining theme. Both are calls for an action. In both speeches, the main goal is to create unity toward a single purpose.<\/p>\n

Martin Luther Kings speech was for Justice and equality to be achieved through the US constitution whereas Obama is attempting to change, reaching for a higher purpose and uniting to solve the problems in America (as he has said) \u201cfundamentally change the constitution\u201d.Another difference is that Obama briefly addressed a variety of issues facing the country while King\u2019s focus was on one issue, unequal treatment of the races.. However, both speeches aim to unit a country, to inspire action, and to create change. Overall I think both of their speeches were great and they both use several language techniques to catch audience mind. Both Obama and Martin Luther use repetitions.
