\nWriting Style and Format
\nFor each essay, write using the “active”
\n(not “passive”) voice, use complete sentences, cohesive paragraphs,
\nand appropriate word usage, punctuation, grammar and spelling.\u00a0

\nwhat is and isn’t plagiarism— taken from Purdue University’s On-line Writing
\nLab posted in this Exam Module. Go to
\nthe Purdue OWL website to review the rules on writing cohesive paragraphs,
\nwriting with an “active” not passive voice, and writing using correct
\nword usage, punctuation and grammar.
\nThe format
\nof your essay should be as follows:
\nFirst) an introductory
\nparagraph presenting a thesis statement
\nthat responds to the essay question;
\nSecond) the essay body that has a number (three or
\nfour?) of cohesive paragraphs. In each of these paragraphs a sub-point is
\npresented providing evidence and explanation supporting the essay’s thesis
\nstatement (presented in the introduction).\u00a0
\nThe sub-point statement is typically presented in the first one or two
\nsentences of the paragraph and the remainder of the paragraph presents the
\nevidence and explanation supporting the sub-point; and
\nThird) a conclusion in which the sub-points are
\ntied together to refer back to and address the essay’s thesis statement
\npresented in the essay\u2019s introductory paragraph.
