So it&#8217;s important that we know the definition of these terms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-text-block-1\"><\/div>\n<p> First, race is a group of<\/p>\n<p>people who is related by common descent or heredity. Second, gender is the way people define<\/p>\n<p>their sexual orientation. And lastly, ethnicity is a group of people who shares a common and<\/p>\n<p>distinctive culture, religion, language, dance\u2026etc.<\/p>\n<p>And in case you don\u0092t know me, my name is Ermyas Sereke, 21. I&#8217;m black and belong to the<\/p>\n<h2>Habesha ethnicity.<\/h2>\n<h2>My Family<\/h2>\n<p>My family consists of eight people with two females and four males; we all belong to black and<\/p>\n<p>belong to the Habesha ethnicity: Tiemit Segid (mother), 52, female.<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-text-block-2\"><\/div>\n<p> Sereke Teklezghi (father),<\/p>\n<p>60, male. Elsa Sereke, 31, female. Awet Sereke, 27. Samuel Sereke, 23, male. And lastly, Yonas<\/p>\n<h2>Sereke, 19, male.<\/h2>\n<p>There are many attributes that are unique to my family, but these two attributes are very unique<\/p>\n<p>to my family: clothes and food. Also, there are some attributes that are similar to my community:<\/p>\n<p>the way they go to church every sunday and the way they celebrate New Year.<\/p>\n<h2>My Community<\/h2>\n<p>Community is a group of people who live in same geographical location or where they share<\/p>\n<p>common attributes. What I consider to be my community is where I feel connected, sharing<\/p>\n<p>interests and goals with others. Retrieved from<\/p>\n<h2>Community Resources<\/h2>\n<p>A social institution is group of people who joined together for a common goal or purpose. In my<\/p>\n<p>community, there are a variety of institutions serving people:<\/p>\n<p>? Grocery Store: Walmart and Shoprite<\/p>\n<p>? Religion: Christianity (Epiphany of our Lord Parish) and Islam (Masjid Al-Jamia)<\/p>\n<p>? Education: University of Pennsylvania and Furness High School.<\/p>\n<p>? Social welfare: Southeast by Southeast and County assistance office<\/p>\n<p>? Health: Snyder Dental Center and Jefferson University Hospital<\/p>\n<h2>Values<\/h2>\n<h3>Six social work values:<\/h3>\n<p>? Service<\/p>\n<p>? Social Justices<\/p>\n<p>? Dignity and worth of the individual<\/p>\n<p>? Importance and Centrality of human relationship<\/p>\n<h3>ME, MY FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITY 4<\/h3>\n<p>? Integrity<\/p>\n<p>? Competence<\/p>\n<p>Everything in the world has value and that&#8217;s why they exist. Otherwise, why would we need<\/p>\n<p>something that has no value? However, human beings don\u0092t value just anything: we all have<\/p>\n<p>something to value and something not to value at all which reflects who we are. Personally, the<\/p>\n<p>most important value to me is dignity and worth of the individual because I think if someone has<\/p>\n<p>no dignity or their dignity was abused by others, they may not able to function in society and<\/p>\n<p>they will lose their confidence and self-esteem.<\/p>\n<h3>Social Issues: ICE And Immigration<\/h3>\n<p>When it comes to immigration, Philadelphia always was a perfect place to live for documented<\/p>\n<p>and undocumented immigrants, no matter where they come from. But after President Trump took<\/p>\n<p>over office, everything started to change. According to Billy Penn (year), ICE, United States<\/p>\n<p>Immigration and Custom Enforcement, based on Philadelphia being known as \u0093the most<\/p>\n<p>aggressive in the nation,\u0092\u0092 arrested 64 percent of undocumented immigrants without criminal<\/p>\n<p>records in 2017, higher \u0093than any of their 23 regional parts.\u0092\u0092 It caused Philadelphia residents to<\/p>\n<p>protest against ICE \u0093at both City Hall and the ICE office at Eighth and Cherry streets,\u0092\u0092 which<\/p>\n<p>resulted in victory of the protesters when Mayor Kennedy declared he won\u0092t renew PARS<\/p>\n<p>contract that allow the ICE to \u0093access city\u0092s arrest database\u0094 (Means and Jennifer, 2018).<\/p>\n<p>I chose this article because as an immigrant I feel this topic is relatable to me, even though I&#8217;m<\/p>\n<p>not an undocumented immigrant and because I want to raise awareness about undocumented<\/p>\n<p>immigrants\u0092 situation in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<h3>ME, MY FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITY 5<\/h3>\n<h2>Reference<\/h2>\n<p>Means George and Jennifer Roberts (2018, Sep 13).
