On\u00a0October\u00a020, 2013\u00a0a dance performance called \u201cCrystal Jubilee\u201d took place in\u00a0the NMSU Center of\u00a0arts. It\u00a0was a\u00a0combination of\u00a0several types of\u00a0dances in\u00a0which we\u00a0could see the participation of\u00a0some dance companies, such as\u00a0Contemporary Dance Theatre, Dancesport Company and Sol y\u00a0Arena. As\u00a0a\u00a0famous Indian Proverb states, \u201cTo\u00a0watch\u00a0us dance is\u00a0to\u00a0hear our hearts speak\u201d. At\u00a0the beginning of\u00a0the performance\u00a0I was so\u00a0excited as\u00a0I usually do\u00a0not attend this kind of\u00a0events.<\/p>\n

One of\u00a0the first dances was \u201cBlind Trust\u201d, it\u00a0was a\u00a0Latin Dance Style most probably to\u00a0be\u00a0rumba, two couples performed in\u00a0this dance, and they were dressed in\u00a0a\u00a0combination of\u00a0blue. The music was \u201cTrack\u00a08\u201d by\u00a0Police performed by\u00a0Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The lights were in\u00a0a\u00a0soft mood perfect for the type of\u00a0dance they performed. The message behind this dance was trust as\u00a0the title states, before they started dancing they covered their eyes showing the public the trust they had between each other to\u00a0follow their steps.<\/p>\n

The quality of\u00a0their performance was very good; you could easily tell that they were advanced dancers. The atmosphere of\u00a0the dance was romantic; it\u00a0made me\u00a0feel like they knew each other for a\u00a0long time\u00a0I could feel their connection as\u00a0they were performing. Later two flamenco dances that were performed astonished\u00a0me. The first one was \u201cFarruca\u201d. The music was \u201cFarruca Solo Compas\u201d. Their costume was the typical large flamenco dress, with their appropriate makeup and hairstyle.<\/p>\n

The lights were perfect, as\u00a0they started you could see their silhouettes performing and later they appeared. The quality of\u00a0their performance was very good, sometimes they were not coordinated, but they did it\u00a0with a\u00a0lot of\u00a0confidence and security. The atmosphere of\u00a0the dance was so\u00a0intense and the sound as\u00a0they tapped their shoes against the floor you could feel the energy they were transmitting. In\u00a0addition there was also the dance called \u201cLa\u00a0primera vez\u201d and it\u00a0was also flamenco. The music was \u201cFue en\u00a0Sevilla\u201d by\u00a0Salamarina.<\/p>\n

This dance was as\u00a0good as\u00a0the previous flamenco one; you could also feel the intensity of\u00a0the dance, it\u00a0was like you just wanted to\u00a0stand up\u00a0and start dancing like them. Afterwards I\u00a0think my\u00a0favorite dance of\u00a0the performance took place, it\u00a0was called \u201cOde to\u00a0the Borderlands\u201d. The dance was a\u00a0combination of\u00a0several Latin dance styles. The music was \u201cArrecotin Arrecotan\u201d by\u00a0Celia Cruz, \u201cCuando Piendo en\u00a0Ti\u201d by\u00a0Jose Feliciano, \u201cCelia y\u00a0Tito\u201d by\u00a0Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. The music was full of\u00a0happiness and joy you could just smile by\u00a0hearing to\u00a0the songs.<\/p>\n

Their costumes were not so\u00a0formal but enough to\u00a0look elegant. I\u00a0think that the message was just to\u00a0transmit\u00a0us energy, happiness, enjoy the dance. The performance quality of\u00a0the dancers was very good; you could easily tell that they were advanced dancers. The atmosphere of\u00a0the dance was of\u00a0cheerfulness, joy, contentment, it\u00a0made me\u00a0feel so\u00a0good, I\u00a0just wanted to\u00a0learn more and dance like them. One of\u00a0the last dances was \u201cLooking Back, Love Song For Mom\u201d. It\u00a0was a\u00a0contemporary dance. The music was \u201cI\u00a0Know You By\u00a0Heart\u201d by\u00a0Diane Scanlon and Eve Nelson, sung by\u00a0Eva Cassidy.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0this dance there was only one performer, the costume was perfect for the message that she wanted to\u00a0transmit, and the light was good as\u00a0we\u00a0just wanted to\u00a0focus on\u00a0the dancer. The message was totally clear for the public and it\u00a0was beautiful, it\u00a0was a\u00a0quick view on\u00a0a\u00a0mother\u2019s life. The performance quality of\u00a0the dancer was excellent. The atmosphere of\u00a0the dance was of\u00a0tenderness, it\u00a0made me\u00a0feel happy and kind of\u00a0sad at\u00a0the same time, because it\u00a0reminded me\u00a0my\u00a0mother and how she has fought for\u00a0us all these years.<\/p>\n
